Online Dating Mistakes to Avoid

April 13, 2017

As online dating becomes more and more popular, it may seem sometimes like it’s not getting any easier. Maybe you feel like you’re putting a lot of effort into it but can’t seem to catch a break. Make sure you’re avoiding these 5 Online Dating Dont’s:

1. Using Outdated Pictures

You want your profile to be an accurate representation of who you are. Your profile picture is the first thing a potential date notices about you, so make sure you’re using one that reflects what you look like now, to avoid any surprises when it does come time to meet in person.

2. Lying in Your Profile

Like we just discussed, you want to make sure your profile is an honest reflection of you as a person. While lying in your profile may attract attention, it’s not the kind of attention you want. Honesty is key.

3. Asking for a Date Too Early

Before asking someone to meet up in person, make sure you’ve been conversing for long enough that they can a sense of who you are and are comfortable with you. Asking too early can be a turn-off.

4. Having Unrealistic Expectations

Make sure to have realistic expectations when online dating. Knowing what you want in life is a good thing, but being too picky can keep you from getting to know potentially great matches.

5. Not Considering Safety

Before asking someone on a date, it’s important to keep their and your safety in mind. They might already be a little wary of online dating, so your choice of location could be key in whether or not they would like to meet up. A public location for a first date is normally a good idea, and make sure to let a trusted friend or family member know where you’re going to be.
